Bottom Line
The ENHULK 58V String Trimmer will be an excellent addition to your lawn maintenance tools. It is a cordless device so that you can carry/maneuver it freely without any restrictions. The main shaft is made from carbon fiber. While the weight reduction from the aluminum counterpart is very less, it absorbs vibrations much better. Perfect device if you already own other ENHULK 58V tools (leaf blower and chainsaw).

Lawn maintenance requires careful attention and the right tools to achieve a well-manicured appearance. A beautifully maintained lawn enhances the aesthetic appeal of any property and provides a pleasant outdoor space for relaxation and recreation. Homeowners and landscapers must understand the various tools available for effective lawn care. The three main tools are: Lawn Mowers, String Trimmers, and Leaf Blowers. Among these tools, the string trimmer holds a significant place.

A string trimmer, often referred to as a weed eater or weed whacker, is a handheld garden tool used for cutting grass and weeds. It features a long shaft with a cutting head at one end. The cutting head uses a rapidly spinning monofilament line instead of a blade. This design allows it to trim areas that are difficult to reach with a lawn mower. The string trimmer’s lightweight and ergonomic design make it easy to maneuver around obstacles. It works well around trees, shrubs, and garden beds where precision is crucial.

While the lawn mower handles the primary task of cutting large, open areas of grass, the string trimmer excels in detailed and precision work. It edges the lawn, creating clean and crisp borders along pathways and driveways. It also trims grass and weeds in tight spaces and around obstacles including areas near fences, walls, and flower beds where a mower would be too cumbersome. If your lawn has overgrown areas with tall grass and dense weeds, a string trimmer can easily tackle this as well.

We recently came across an interesting string trimmer from one of the sub-brands of AiDot, ENHULK. It is the ENHULK 58V 16″ String Trimmer. We have already reviewed a product from ENHULK a while ago. It was the ENHULK 58V Cordless Leaf Blower with a whooping 930CFM air flow. Coming to the string trimmer, from the title, it is clear that it is a cordless unit with a powerful 58V battery/motor combination and a cutting width of 16”. A unique feature of this string trimmer is that unlike other options available in the market, this unit has a carbon fiber shaft. So, it will be both lightweight and strong at the same time.

This is the review of the ENHULK String Trimmer. We are writing this review after using and testing it for a couple of weeks at three different houses. In this review, we would like to share our experiences regarding build quality, installation, ease of use, battery life, and performance. Continue reading to find out if the ENHULK Cordless String Trimmer is the right choice for your lawn maintenance.

Let us take a quick peek at the contents of the package before the actual review. Opening the box, we have the main shaft of the string trimmer in its folded position. We will take a closer look at the unit in the next section. Then we have the 58V battery with a capacity of 2.5Ah. There is also a charger in the box. In a separate plastic bag, we have the user manuals, which has clear instructions on how to assemble the product, how to use the tool, some maintenance tips. Do go through the guide before using the tool.

The same bag has the auxiliary handle, debris guard/shield, and a couple of bolts to attach the shield. We also get a torx wrench to tighten/loosen those bolts. Last but not least, we get a spare cutting line. That’s it for the unboxing. Let us now proceed with the assembly of the tool.

Before looking at the overall design elements of the ENHULK 58V String Trimmer, let us fully assemble the unit with the necessary bits and pieces. As mentioned before, the main shaft comes in its folded position. So, the first step is to unfold the shaft and lock it in position using the tool-less bolt.

Next step is to attach the debris guard. There are a couple of mounting holes just above the motor assembly. Place the guard and align its holes with the mounting holes on the shaft. Using the torx wrench, tighten the two bolts to fix the shield. Keep an eye on the blade on the guard and be careful while installing.

The last piece of assembly is the auxiliary handle to the shaft. Just position the handle at any desired place on the shaft, slide the lower clamp, insert the bolt, and tighten it using the knob. The whole assembly process was very easy and it took less than 15-minutes for us to unbox the contents and fully assemble the string trimmer.

Now that we have properly assembled the string trimmer, let us talk briefly about its design and aesthetics. The first thing that we notice in this string trimmer is its carbon fiber shaft. There is another version with an aluminum shaft but the one carbon fiber shaft is lighter in weight without losing its strength or robustness. When we unfold and connect the battery, the total length of the tool is about 70” (178cm).

While we can fold the shaft in half, the debris guard near the motor housing will prevent it from folding completely. Moreover, there is provision near the rear handle to store this string trimmer vertically to a wall or a pegboard.

Speaking of rear handle, it has the main control panel with a “MODE” button and LED indicator on the top and a variable speed trigger on the bottom. The top most section of the rear handle has the slot to insert the battery and a battery release button.

The upper section of the shaft (just below the rear handle) has an auxiliary handle. You can easily and quickly adjust the position and orientation of the handle as per your comfort. The end of the bottom shaft has the motor housing and the debris shield.

Coming to the battery and charger, they are identical to the units that came with the ENHULK Leaf Blower. The 58V battery has a 2.5Ahcapacity while the charger has a maximum charge current of 2.3A. You can use the charger on a table/desk or mount it to a wall using the mounting holes on the back.

So, how did the ENHULK 58V String Trimmer perform? First of all, let us talk about the setup part. While the tool is almost ready to be used out of the box, there is some assembly required. All you have to do is tighten a couple of bolts and you will be up and running in less than 15 minutes. While we were doing this, we connected the battery to its charger so that it rejuvenates from being idle during all the storing and shipping duration.

After plugging the battery, the trimmer came to life immediately and the ECO mode was active. To start the trimmer, all we had to do was push safety switch forward and then depress the variable speed trigger. The speed of the motor depends on how much you press the trigger.

Speaking of the motor, the ENHULK String Trimmer uses a brushless motor. It is powerful, fast, and importantly makes significantly less noise. The trimmer head is connected to this motor which uses a cutting line of diameter 2.4mm (0.095”). The maximum cutting width is 16”, which we feel is decent for most trimming tasks. As this is a cordless tool, you can use it horizontally parallel to ground, vertically to trim edges of a driveway, or any weird angle you want.

An interesting feature of the trimmer head is its bump-feed mechanism. As we use the tool to trim grass, the cutting line gets worn out and becomes shorter. Do we have to manually adjust the length of the line every now and then? No. All you have to do is bump the trimmer head against the ground while it is running. The mechanism inside the head will automatically release the cutting line and the blade on the debris guard will cut any extra line. This system is much better than some of the methods in use where the line will be released every time you press the trigger.

Coming back to the modes, there are a couple more of them namely HIGH and TURBO. Each mode increases the maximum RPM roughly by 1,000. All the three modes have respective indicators on the LED panel. The center “HIGH” mode indicator has additional functions as well. If it glows in solid red, then it indicates a low battery and if it flashes red, then there is a problem with the unit. Simple yet functional HMI.

While the ENHULK String Trimmer comes with a debris guard, we felt that its width and height are not adequate. After using the trimmer for about 15 minutes, our feet were covered in small amount of flying debris. You can easily disassemble the trimmer head and clean it after a job. If you need to replace the cutting line, you can do it very easily.

Let us now talk about the carbon fiber shaft of this trimmer. Yes. It is lightweight and yet strong and robust. But difference in weight between this variant and the one with aluminum shaft is only 100g (0.22lbs.). We feel the main advantage of the carbon fiber shaft is not in terms of weight but rather how it handles the vibrations. As we did not have the aluminum model, we couldn’t make a clear side-by-side comparison. But after using the trimmer with carbon fiber shaft for a couple of weeks, all we can say is that we did not have any fatigue and the shaft definitely absorbs most of the vibrations from the motor.

The ENHULK String Trimmer, like their leaf blower, uses a unique 58V battery system. Our particular unit came with a decent 2.5Ah capacity. In ECO mode the runtime was around 48 minutes but if you bump the speed to TURBO mode, the runtime falls to 19 minutes. We believe that the ECO mode is suitable for most trimming tasks and if you are dealing with certain stubborn weeds, then you can use the HIGH or TURBO modes.

Charging the battery took slightly over an hour (around 69 minutes), which is a decent charging speed. ENHULK also has a 5Ah battery as an optional accessory that is compatible with all their 58V tools. If you want to work continuously without intermittent recharges, then you can consider this high-capacity battery.

ENHULK has leaf blower, chainsaw, and now this string trimmer in their “58V” lineup. We believe they have a lawnmower launching very soon. If that’s the case, then the combination of lawnmower, string trimmer, and the leaf blower is perfect for any individual or a company that handles lawn maintenance. The lawnmower takes case of cutting the grass in open lawns while the string trimmer will help in shaping the edges or reach places that the lawnmower couldn’t. Finally, their leaf blower will tidy things up after trimming the lawn.

The price of the carbon fiber variant of the ENHULK 58V String Trimmer is $224.99 while the aluminum variant in $179.99. Except for the shaft, all the other specs and features are identical. The tools also come with a decent 4-year guarantee while the battery has a 2-year guarantee.

Overall, we really liked the ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer. It uses a powerful brushless motor and a 2.5Ah battery that can handle even stubborn tasks. The carbon fiber shaft is quite unique but is expensive than the aluminum counterpart. If you are a professional who works on lawn all the time, the trimmer with carbon fiber shaft seems like a decent choice as it is slightly lower in weight and better at handling vibrations.

For home owners or people who use the trimmer occasionally, the aluminum shaft is an economical choice without loosing any performance. The battery life on the ENHULK String Trimmer is pretty decent considering it only has a 2.5Ah battery. ECO mode is suitable for most trimming tasks and if you need that oomph, then you can bump up to HIGH or TURBO.

If you are looking for a simple and powerful string trimmer for your lawn maintenance (either personal or professional), then the ENHULK 58V 16” String Trimmer is definitely a good choice. The advantage of the ENHULK 58V system is that you already get a leaf blower, a chain saw, and now the string trimmer that uses the same battery/charging topology and they are slowly adding more tools to this portfolio.
