Bottom Line
The 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam has an excellent image quality from its Sony Starvis 2 IMX678 Sensor. It has very good 4K HDR capabilities and even decent night time recording. The optional rear cam can also record 1080P HDR. It has several AI features and enhancements for driving and parking safety.

Dash Cams have become indispensable tools for enhancing driver safety and providing crucial evidence in various situations. They promote safe driving practices by encouraging drivers to remain attentive and follow traffic rules, knowing that their actions are being recorded. This added accountability can lead to a reduction in risky behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, and distracted driving, ultimately contributing to a safer road environment for all. Dash cams serve as objective eyewitnesses in accidents and disputes. In the event of a collision, dashcam footage can provide an accurate account of what transpired, helping to determine fault and prevent fraudulent claims. This visual evidence can also expedite insurance claims and legal proceedings, saving time and resources for all parties involved. Additionally, dashcams are particularly valuable in hit-and-run scenarios, where captured footage can help identify the responsible party and aid law enforcement efforts.

They also offer a layer of security for parked vehicles. With parking mode functionality, dash cams can continue recording even when the vehicle is unattended. This is crucial for capturing incidents such as vandalism, theft, or accidental damage. The recorded footage can not only aid in apprehending culprits but also provide vehicle owners with peace of mind knowing that their valuable asset is under surveillance, especially in areas with high rates of vehicle-related crimes.

Recently, we got an interesting product from 70mai, a brand that specializes in producing dash cams. It is the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam. It is an upgraded version of the previously popular 4K A800S Dash Cam. 70mai has improved a lot in terms of image quality, HDR implementation, and some ADAS Features. All these stats are good but how does the latest flagship from 7mai perform in real-life usage?

This is the review of the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam. We are writing this review after using and testing the device for some time. We tested the dash cam for the ease of installation, image quality, HDR capabilities, software/app experience, and many more. If you are interested in investing a capable dash cam system for your car/truck, then continue reading the review of the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam.

Before proceeding with the unboxing, we would like to state that we got the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam Set with the Hardwire Kit. Depending on the trim you choose, the contents will vary. That said, let us begin with the main box. It contains the 4K A810 Dash Cam and the Rear Camera with model number RC12. There are a couple of electrostatic stickers and a mount for the main dash cam.

Then we have two long cables, one is the USB-A to USB-C Power Cable and the other is a special cable to connect the rear camera. There is also a tiny crowbar to shove the cables in the car’s headliner. You can power the dash cams with the cigarette lighter adapter that comes in the package. Both the A810 and RC12 rear cam come with respective user manuals. In a separate box, we have the hardwire kit with its own user manual.

Design:

The 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam is a compact unit. On the back on the unit (the part that faces the inside of the car) has a large 3” LCD. Just below the display, there are four buttons that perform various functions depending on the screen. On the left of the device, there is a power button, a hole for microphone, and some ventilation holes.

Coming to the main event, the camera is in the front of the device. 70mai upgraded the main sensor from Sony Starvis IMX415 in the A800S to Sony Starvis 2 IMX 678. It offers a superior 4K performance and thanks to its large F1.8 aperture, the low light or night time performance is very good.

The camera module isn’t fixed in one location but mounted on a swivel mechanism. You can easily adjust the angle of the camera up and down.

The right side of the dash cam has the microSD Card Slot, USB-C Power Port, and the rear camera port. There is also a small indicator LED on the bottom and a tiny speaker on the front (just below the mounting slot). We also have the rear camera unit. It can record 1080P HDR videos.

Last but not least, we have the hardwire kit. If you want to use the parking surveillance feature of the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam, then the hardwire kit allows you to directly wire the cam with the car’s battery.

Installation:

The procedure for installing the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam is very simple and straightforward. First, we have to stick the electrostatic on the windshield without any air bubbles. Insert the microSD Card into its slot on the dash cam. Note that you have to purchase a good quality (with rating UHS-3 or above) microSD card with at least 32GB capacity. We personally recommend a 128GB microSD Card for capturing more footage without overwriting.

Slide the mount onto the dashcam and mount the dashcam on the electrostatic sticker. Now comes the wiring. Using the crowbar accessory, carefully route the power cable along the headliner and A-pillar all the way to the cigarette lighter port.

After powering the dash cam on, adjust the camera at a desirable angle. Installing the rear cam is also very similar. If you are not comfortable with the wiring procedure, then don’t hesitate to take help from a professional.

Performance:

If you ever considered purchasing a dash cam for your vehicle in the last 4-5 years, then chances are you might have heard of 70mai. They are one of the top-tier manufacturers of dash cams. Their latest product is the A810 4K Dash Cam has a lots of bells and whistles. For starters, the Sony Starvis 2 IMX678 Sensor captures very high-quality footage. If you compare the IMX678 Sensor with the previous model’s sensor i.e., IMX415 in A800S, then the former boasts a 68% increase in size with and almost 90% increase in the pixel’s photosensitive area. As a result, more light creeps onto the sensor and the outcome is an extremely clear image. The IMX678 also has a large F1.8 aperture. When you combine the large sensor size with this large aperture, then the low light performance is very good. 70mai A810 Dash Cam has Night Owl Vision, a special algorithm to capture HDR quality footage even in low light conditions with high clarity, balanced exposure and saturation, and light glare control. There is a little glare from the headlights of the oncoming traffic and street lights but the objects on the ground are still very clear.

Apart from recording in 4K, the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam also records in HDR with their proprietary algorithm. This is very useful if you frequently travel in tunnels, underground passages, or other similar places where there is a significant difference in lighting. The combination of 4K and HDR is also useful to capture license plates in direct sunlight. Another 70mai self-developed algorithm is MaiColor Vivid+ Solution for reproduction of better colors. This algorithm optimizes the footage for exposure, color accuracy, and overall stability even in harsh lighting conditions. In simple words, the colors look natural.

If you tune down the resolution to 1080P, then you can enable 60FPS recording. This is very useful if you want to minimize motion blur in the recordings. Keep in mind that if you want HDR functionality, then you have to sacrifice 60FPS recording and vice-versa.

While the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam captures the license plates of the car in front, it slightly struggles to capture them if the car is 2 cars ahead. If the car is 3 or more cars ahead, then everything becomes blur. The FOV of the A810 is 150°. This is 10° wider than the previous model A800S.

The rear cam i.e., the RC12 can capture 1080P HDR footage simultaneously when the main dash cam (A810) captures 4K HDR. This takes a significant toll on the storage and that is why we recommend a higher capacity microSD card to pair with the A810 (you can choose up to 256GB). RC12 has an FOV of 120° and the aperture is F2.0.

You can control most of the settings directly from the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam. But if you install the official app, then there are a lot more you can do. The app is available for both Android and iOS platforms. You can view the recordings, download the footage, and even delete unnecessary files.

In addition to this, you can adjust some basic dash cam settings i.e., resolution, HDR, Parking Security features (which we will talk in the next section), and many more. Enable Wi-Fi in the 70mai 4K A810 and connect your phone to it. You can access the footage in real-time without using phone’s data.

While the A810 Dash Cam and the supplement RC12 Rear Cam can continuously record while driving, some users, who park their vehicles in busy streets or isolated parking lots, want to feel that their vehicle is safe and secure. This is where the 24-Hour Parking Security/Surveillance feature of the A810 comes in handy. In this mode, the dash cam tries to record in the event of any collisions (only hard collisions and not small scratches). But in order to make use of this feature, you have to install the hardwire kit, which is an optional accessory.

With their AI implementation, the A810 can detect any suspicious activity near the car and activates recording mode. Another AI feature is 70mai’s ADAS or Advanced Driver-Assistance system. The A810 cam can alert you for lane departure, forward collision, moving traffic, and pedestrian collision. The 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam has also built-in GPS. This means all the footage has logs for the exact coordinates along with speed and time. The dash can also record time-lapse recording.

The price of the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam is $130. If you want the rear camera as well, then the price is $160. Additionally, you need the hardwire kit if you want to utilize the 24-Hour Parking Surveillance system of the A810. In that case, the price jumps another $20 to $180. With 1-year warranty and the performance it offers, the price of the 70mai A810 Dash Cam is very reasonable.

Overall, we really liked the footage from the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam. The Sony Starvis 2 IMX678 Sensor does its job of recording excellent 4K videos. You can clearly see all the details on vehicles 3 or 4 cars away. However, getting proper license plate information that far might be tricky for this dash cam. The night time recording is also very good. The HDR implementation is done really well and the dash cam has the horse power to record dual HDR footage i.e., from both main and rear cams.

Speaking of the rear cam, it can record 1080P HDR video but the quality compared to the main sensor in the A810 is low. The 70mai A810 also features a lot of AI algorithms for night time recording, color reproduction, ADAS features, and parking surveillance. The companion app is decent but the UI could be better.

If you are interested in a high-quality 4K dash cam that can record HDR from the main cam as well as the (optional) rear cam, then the 70mai 4K A810 Dash Cam is a worthy choice. Both the hardware and the software are good.
