Think about the air you breathe right now. Feel the cool rush fill your lungs, carrying with it the essence of life. But is it truly pure? Invisible particles such as dust mites, pollen grains, pet dander, even volatile organic compounds are present in the air we breathe. These microscopic villains can wreak havoc on our health, triggering allergies, aggravating asthma, and even impacting cognitive function. But fear not, as there exists a technological shield protecting our health: the air purifier.
More than just fancy fans, air purifiers are providers of clean air, employing sophisticated filtration systems to trap and neutralize airborne nasties. Imagine them as security, meticulously checking every particle that attempts to enter your personal air bubble. Only the truly harmless ones gain entry, while the troublemakers are detained and neutralized. But their magic goes beyond mere filtration. Some air purifiers are equipped with activated carbon filters, absorbing unpleasant odors. Others boast ultra-violet light technology, zapping bacteria and viruses with the cleansing power equivalent of the sun.
Whether you’re an allergy sufferer seeking sanctuary, a city dweller combating urban pollution, or simply someone who desires the freshest air possible, air purifiers offer a gateway to a healthier, happier life.
We recently got a chance to test one such interesting piece of equipment – the MORENTO Air Purifier. This particular model is designed for home usage and especially large rooms. It features a dual inlet system, where air enters the purifier from both sides. There are also several other features such as fan with adjustable speed, multi-layered filter, PM2.5 Sensor, air filter monitoring, and many more.
This is the review of the MORENTO Air Purifier. In this review, we would like to share our experience of using the product with emphasis on installation or initial setup, features, performance, price, etc. So, continue reading to find out more about our thoughts and impressions of the MORENTO Air Purifier.
Before we dive into the actual review, let us quickly take a look at the contents of package of the MORENTO Air Purifier. Opening the box, we have the air purifier unit in a plastic bag. There is a lot of notes and warnings on the product on how to use it, where to place it, the PM2.5 Sensor etc. There is also a quick start guide. We highly recommend going through all this data before you start using the air purifier.
Coming to the main unit, it comes pre-installed with the air filters. That’s right. The MORENTO Air Purifier uses two air filters. We will take a closer look at the air purifier and the filters in the next section. The final piece of the package is the power brick. It is a standard 100 – 240V @50/60Hz AC Mains to 24V ⎓ 2A DC power supply. The DC end of the brick i.e., the connector that plugs into the air purifier is a common barrel jack. So, you don’t have to worry about finding a replacement, if necessary.
Air Purifiers are one of the simplest devices. In its most basic form, air purifier consists of a filter and a fan. The same goes with the design of the MORENTO Air Purifier. But unlike most air purifiers, this particular unit has two air filters, one in the front and one in the back. Both these filters have protective covers that we can remove very easily to change or clean them.
If you remove the filter covers and the filters, you can see the fan/blower unit. This easy access to the fan allows you to clean it or other maintenance. On the front of the unit, just above the filter opening, we have a display that shows basic information such as fan speed, air quality, filter life, child-lock status, and timer. There is a special light ring surrounding the display unit that changes colors depending on the quality of the surrounding air.
All the controls of the air purifier are on the top of the unit. We have touch-sensitive buttons for auto mode, sleep mode, fan/blower speed, main power on/off, child lock, timer, and filter reset. Adjacent to this control panel, the center part of the top has the opening for the clean air. The port for plugging the DC Barrel Jack is on the lower left side of the unit.
As we mentioned earlier, the back of the unit has another filter. Above this filter, there is an important part of the air purifier – a PM2.5 Sensor. This is responsible for the unit to determine the level of pollutants in the surrounding air and control the filtration (in auto mode) and even change the color of the light surrounding the display. There is a handle just above the sensor for easily carrying the unit between rooms.
Setting up the MORENTO Air Purifier is very easy. Although the packaging and quick start guide says to remove the filters from the protective bag, our unit did not come with one. The filters are already properly installed inside the unit and the whole unit is sealed in a protective plastic bag. As a safety precaution, we took the filters out of the unit and inserted them properly once again.
After this, the next step is to connect the power supply to the unit and switching it on. The air purifier came to life and we are ready to go.
We mentioned PM2.5 Sensor on the back. While positioning the air purifier in the room, make sure that you don’t block this sensor. So, don’t place the unit very close to a wall.
The standout feature of the MORENTO Air Purifier is the dual air intake system. It has inlets and filters on both the front and back of the unit. The blower/fan takes air from the sides of the unit through these filters and pushes through the top of the unit. As the unit draws air from both sides, it helps in quickly purifying a room. The Clean Air Delivery Rate or CADR of this air purifier is 300m3/h. At this rate, this air purifier is capable of refreshing the air in a room of 1076 square feet (approx. 100 square meter) every hour, creating a healthy and fresh breathing environment.
Filters are the main ingredient of an air purifier. The MORENTO Air Purifier is no exception and shows this with its multi-layered filters. The first stage is a pre filter that blocks slightly larger pollutants. The second stage of the filter consists of a H13 true HEPA filter which can capture more than 99.9% of airborne particles that are as small as 0.3 microns.
The third stage consists of a cotton filter with activated carbon. This helps in absorbing odors from the room. Together, the filtration system of the MORENTO Air Purifier can filter PM2.5, dust particles, smoke, pollen, hair, odor from pets, cooking, and smoking.
In order to properly use such high-quality filter, the air purifier must have a strong fan or blower unit. The MORENTO Air Purifier has a single circular fan/blower in the center of the unit. It sucks air from front and back sides of the purifier and blows it from the top. We can adjust the speed of this fan in 4 levels.
While we can run the air purifier 24/7, the MORENTO Air Purifier comes with an option to set timer in the duration of 2 hours, 5 hours, and 8 hours. The unit will automatically shut off after this time.
If you are someone who doesn’t like distracting lights or sounds in a room while sleeping, then the sleep mode on the MORENTO Air Purifier is the perfect setting. It will make the unit run very quiet (less than the lowest selectable fan speed) and turns off all the lighting and display. This air purifier also has an auto mode where it will automatically adjust the speed of the fan depending on the quality of the air.
The PM2.5 sensor on the back of the unit is an infrared-based sensor that monitor the air quality in real-time. Apart from indicating the quality of surrounding air, this sensor is also useful for the functioning of the auto-mode feature.
So, how did the MORENTO Air Purifier perform? We will begin with the installation. We did not have a major initial setup or installation process. All we had to do was check if the filters are properly seated or not and plug the power supply. That’s it. We are up and running with the unit.
The design of the air purifier allows it to intake air from both sides of the unit. This means it can purify large quantity of air in less time. The filters work really well in blocking microscopic dust particles. We don’t have pollen where we live but the pollution levels are very high. After just a couple of days of using the purifier, we can feel the difference in the air we breathe. The filters are starting to become visibly dirty but thankfully the unit comes with a filter monitoring system.
MORENTO Air Purifier’s filters have a life of 2,000 hours and the unit indicates this with an “F” rating. The moment we switched on the unit, it was F99, which means it has more than 99% of its life left. As we continue to use the air purifier, this number will decrease and ultimately go down to F00. This is an indication that the filter has reached its end of life and it is time to replace it. You have to make use of the “Filter Reset” button on the control panel to replace the filters.
Adjustable fan speed, which are indicated by 1F through 4F, is definitely a plus as we can set the speed depending on the quality of air or the noise it makes. Speaking of noise, the MORENTO Air Purifier isn’t particularly a loud unit. Even at the maximum fan speed, the unit makes only 56dB. If you put the unit in sleep mode, the fan noise becomes less than 25dB.
Power consumption is also very low. At 4F speed, the air purifier draws 48W, which is the maximum the power adapter can provide. At 1F speed, the power consumption is around 7W. In sleep mode, the power consumption falls to just 3W. There is a special power saving mode where the unit will automatically set the fan to auto mode if the air purifier is in 4F speed for more than 2 hours and there is no pollution. If you are planning to go out or sleep and don’t want the unit to run continuously, you can make use of the timer feature.
The PM2.5 sensor is very useful in real-time monitoring of the air quality. It indicates this in a scale of 1 to 100 on the display. Additionally, it also indicates this with the light ring around the display with red, yellow and green colors. If the microscopic particles are in the range of 0 – 75µg/m3, then the indicator is green meaning the quality of air is good. For 76 – 150µg/m3, the indicator becomes yellow and the air quality is moderate. If the PM2.5 sensor detects particles with greater than 150µg/m3, then the air quality is bad.
The child-lock helps in locking the control panel from accidental touches by children or pets. There is no Wi-Fi connectivity with the MORENTO Air Purifier. But we believe there is a newer version that comes with Wi-Fi and Alexa compatibility so that we can use a smartphone to control or monitor the unit.
When you purchase any air purifier, it is not a set and forget kind of device such as a TV or Fridge. It requires regular maintenance so that it can provide clean and fresh air. Coming to the MORENTO Air Purifier, we have to wipe the inlet and outlet of the air purifier every now and then. We can also clean the filter with a vacuum or mild brush. Make sure that you don’t wet the filter.
Depending of your usage, we expect the life-time of these filters to be around 3 to 6 months. After this you have to replace the filters. So, there will be a recurring cost of buying filter with any air purifier.
At the time of reviewing the product, the price of MORENTO Air Purifier is $107. But there are coupons and discounts that you can apply and get the unit for significantly less. With discounted price and a standard 1-year warranty, this air purifier is a worthy choice.
Overall, we liked the simplicity and functionality of the MORENTO Air Purifier. It isn’t a fancy unit with a lot of bling or colorful LCD. Just minimalist design with all the controls and indications kept to basic stuff (a touch control and a tiny monochrome LCD). The dual intake is a highlight feature as it allows the unit to purify a relatively large room very quickly.
While dual intake is really useful, keep in mind that you have to purchase two filters when they wear out. There are a lot of useful feature such as adjustable fan speed, real-time air quality monitoring, auto mode, sleep mode, filter monitoring system, and timer. Power consumption and noise levels are very acceptable.
If you are looking for a simple no non-sense air purifier for your home, then you can definitely check out the MORENTO Air Purifier. It is suitable for relatively large rooms with minimal to no effort.
