Normal Restart

We will begin with a simple restart procedure. You can apply this procedure if your Apple Watch is working but is slow or sluggish.

  • If you are charging your Apple Watch, then the first step is to disconnect the charger. This step is important as you can’t restart the Apple Watch while it is charging.
  • You can find a button right next to the Digital Crown on the right side of the Apple Watch. This button has an oval shape.
  • Press this button and hold it until you see the ‘Power’ options on the screen.
  • The first option is the ‘POWER OFF’. Slide this option to switch off the Apple Watch.
  • After the Watch is completely shut down, press the same button on the side and hold it until the Watch boots (the Apple logo shows up on the display).
  • That’s it. You have successfully restarted the Apple Watch.

Force Restart

The previous method works fine if and only if the Apple Watch is working and responsive (even though it is slow). But what if your Apple watch froze completely and is unresponsive?

Even if you press and hold the side button, you cannot see any activity on the screen. In this situation, you can Force Restart the Apple Watch. Here are the steps for the same.

  • Just like the previous method, disconnect the charger before proceeding further.
  • On the right side, you can see a large wheel. Apple calls this the Digital Crown. Next to this, there is the oval button.
  • Press both the Digital Crown and the oval side button simultaneously and hold them for about 10 seconds (slightly more).
  • This will force restart the Apple Watch even if it isn’t responsive.
  • You can release the buttons once the Apple logo comes on the display.
